The Type R is absolutely faster than the GR86 but there's something about wringing out the entire car that's fun as someone mentioned earlier and shifting near redline every time; the GR86 feels more raw especially with the new 2.4L the power is actually noticeable, and it is RWD vs FWD. Meanwhile, here’s a Civic Type R FK8 vs. FL5 comparison for all you Honda enthusiasts. Of course, with Varis being somewhat understated in the US, this sort of tuner arouses my interest. So I checked the list of manufacturers attending the upcoming SEMA 2023 show (October 31-November 3), but didn’t find the company.

The FL5 has already beaten one benchmark set by the ultimate FK8, which was the 2021 Type R Limited Edition. In testing at Honda’s legendary Suzuka Circuit – back on the Formula 1 calendar

Speculative or not, the FL5 is only being assembled in Japan. So if you reduce the number of places assembling the car when compared to the previous model, the numbers are likely going to be less. I have seen some FL5's go for $5k markup, but as others mentioned, most FK8's are still selling above their MSRP used.

The new Honda Civic Type R FL5 has already established itself as a formidable performance vehicle, outpacing its FK8 predecessor in several key areas. It has already been able to set lap records
